School of Teacher Education

We know that teaching, whether that’s at ECE, Primary or Secondary School level, is not just a set of skills. We believe that you will teach out of who you are – your person; that’s what children remember. We’re interested in your personal and spiritual development while you study at BTI. Teachers are highly influential in their respective community and through their skills and knowledge, help make a difference to the lives of the younger generation, encouraging them to be their best and succeed in life.

At BTI we review stakeholder feedback constantly, and shape our programmes accordingly. Feedback helps us meet the needs of stakeholders, whether they are existing students, alumni, associate teachers, programme monitors, NZQA or TEC.

BTI staff are steadfast in educating and encouraging the next generation of teachers as well as being constantly inspired to conduct their own research and improve BTI’s classroom practices.

BTI’s Teacher Education programmes are approved and accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and lead to registration and provisional certification with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand. All programmes equip our graduates to exhibit the aspirational qualities and knowledge base included in the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand’s Code of Professional Responsibility and Standards for the Teaching Profession.

Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary)
“Tāku wā ki BTI. My time at BTI was an absolute blessing; to be able to attend and be able to complete my Post Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching. My tutors were informative, professional and passionate in what they transferred onto us and most of all they were very supportive, approachable and kind.
Ngākau Tapatahi (Integrity)
Whakaaro. Ka tini te whakaaro taumaha, ka mahia i te mātauranga rereke te hinengaro tinihanga, ka ora ai te ahuatanga.
When we change the ideas that envelop or shackle us, we participate in transformational pedagogy because with changed minds comes changed actions.”
– Aroha Koria, Graduate from Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary)
