Social Justice in New Zealand

It's hard to believe, but 1 in 5 children are growing up in New Zealand below the poverty line.  Many of these kids go to school with no breakfast, and often spend the day unable to focus on their study because they have no lunch.

Life can be very tough for the most vulnerable in society, the young, the ageing and the sick; the media feeds us examples of these on a regular basis.  What about those who have fallen on hard times, are impacted by decisions beyond their control, are in abusive relationships, have lost their home or simply feel unheard?  Who brings their plight into focus?

In New Zealand, we need caring, passionate people prepared to stand in the gap, develop trusting relationships and be advocates for those who need help and support.

Social workers can bridge this gap, working in many areas including:
  • Aged care
  • Admininistration
  • Advice & Information
  • Alcohol & Drug
  • Case Management
  • Child & Family
  • Child Welfare
  • Clinical Supervision
  • Community Development
  • Disabilities
  • Education & Training
  • Family Relationships
  • Groupwork
  • Health
  • Immigrants & Refugees
  • Iwi, hapu, pan tribal social services
  • Justice – prisons, victims support, restorative justice
