Growing Great Hearts + Minds For Over 20 Years
Cast your mind back 20 years and you may remember Bill Clinton becoming the 42nd President of the USA, Winston Peters launching the New Zealand First party or even Buckingham Palace opening its doors to the public for the first time. However, in the small town of Bethlehem, Tauranga, the exciting news of the day was that a new tertiary provider had been born!
20 years on, and the initial cohort of just 13 teacher education students has grown to over 450, studying ECE, Primary and Secondary Teaching, Social Work and Counselling from all around New Zealand. To recognise this key milestone, BTI invited well known TV journalist, Rob Harley, to share some inspirational thoughts with alumni, staff, students and VIPs, including the Hon Larry Baldock and the Mayor of Tauranga, Stuart Crosby, at a celebratory dinner held at Mills Reef. Also invited to the event was the Hon Simon Bridges, MP for Tauranga, who was unable to attend but sent his congratulations and message of support via video.

As we have a passion for education, a FREE professional development morning was organised for stakeholders and we were delighted that approx. 100 teachers, counselling practitioners and local educators attended this event. Sessions covered a miriad of subjects, including 'Digital Technologies that Enhance Learning', 'Narrative CBT', 'Servant Leadership in the ECE Sector', 'Sex, Relationships and Healthy Choices for Young People' and 'Collaborative Action Research as a Practical Process for Professional Development'.
Feedback from these sessions included, "Thanks for providing such a great day for us. The lectures were stimulating; Richard's "ruptured connections" image says it all when it comes to our counselling work. I got heaps of ideas from the workshop for children. The goodie bag was an unexpected and lovely bonus!"
